WELCOME BACK
Welcome back to the second issue of The Countdown. As the name suggests we are counting down – and celebrating each step of the way – to MIBOR’s Centennial Celebration. Opening doors for 100 years is indeed cause for celebration. We hope you will join us each quarter as we bring you centennial-related news through this publication. The first issue in July introduced you to the Building a Living Legacy project and its leaders. We’re pleased to update you on the progress being made in the neighborhood and bring you news about upcoming centennial events. So read on and stay tuned between issues by visiting www.MIBOR100.com.

RENOVATION IN FULL SWING
St. Clair Place is abuzz with the sounds of progress. Saws buzzing, hammers flying, all in the name of revitalization. Sidewalk and curb improvements in the works can be seen all along the 10th Street Corridor and construction crews are in place at numerous home sites throughout the neighborhood. The 32 homes of the REALTORS®' Building a Living Legacy project bear a yard sign recognizing REALTOR® and other partner involvement. Beyond that sign in each yard, much work is being done.

Today, eight homes are either under construction or are being rehabbed. A total of 16 homes will be complete and ready for families to occupy by the end of 2010 and the remaining 16 will be complete by the end of 2011. Drive along Hamilton, Tacoma, Jefferson or Rural and you can see various stages of renovation. Click here for brief video clips of four homes in progress.

GET A SNEAK PEEK
Mark your calendar for your first chance to tour a few of the homes in progress. On Thursday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Centennial Events Council will host an open house-style Dusty Boots Tour. Here are your step-by-step instructions for an informative and casual visit.
  1. Park at the John H. Boner Community Center at 2236 E. 10th Street
  2. Visit the tent for some information, a beverage and a map
  3. Away you go!
Several properties will be open and available during this self-guided walking tour. Mingle back at the tent and stay for a Colts ticket drawing! RSVPs are requested to clairebelby@mibor.com. Click here for the event flyer.

PRESS CONFERENCE CREATES BUZZ
Tuesday, September 22 was an exciting day in the life of Building a Living Legacy project as a sizable crowd of supporters and interested media gathered outside 822 N. Tacoma Ave. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, Super Bowl Host Committee Chair Mark Miles and Boner Center CEO James Taylor were all on hand to discuss the housing progress and praise REALTORS®’ role. REALTOR® Foundation President Regina Jones and Indy East Asset Development Executive Director Katy Brett also addressed the crowd and media to shed light on the impressive collaboration that has taken place to make these formerly foreclosed and abandoned properties stable fixtures in the community and homes for the homeless. SUPER BOWL TICKETS UP FOR GRABS
If you haven’t been playing the monthly MIBOR Trivia Game, you need to get in the action. Each month as we build toward the Centennial in 2012, a new MIBOR or real estate industry trivia question is posted. Answer it correctly and be entered to win a $100 gas card. But that’s not all. Each time you attempt the trivia question – regardless of whether you answer correctly — you will be entered to win two tickets to the 2012 Super Bowl played in Indianapolis. Enter as often as you like at www.mibor100.com/trivia. Each month’s gas winner will be notified and announced in Fast Track and this publication. The lucky winner for August was Rikki Houghton of Borges Real Estate and Appraisal in Greenwood. September’s winner could be you! Play by midnight tonight.
