VOLUNTEERS DIG IN TO CLEANUP

The April and June Cleanup Days to celebrate MIBOR’s Centennial were great successes, but the momentum only built as volunteers gathered for the third and final cleanup event of the year Friday, September 16. More than 50 volunteers came to the Building a Living Legacy neighborhood of St. Clair Place for the event. Volunteers left their mark with new plants, fresh mulch, cleaner sidewalks and a newly painted wall on a once blighted building.

Our thanks to the volunteers who dug in to cleanup. Many of you attended all three events – kudos to you. If you want to see the results, click here for photos or, better yet, take a drive past the John H. Boner Community Center at 10th and Jefferson Streets where the results shine.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

January 3, 2012 is a special day. If you have been following the centennial promotions, you know that the day marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of your trade association. You may also know that a dedicated group of members has been compiling MIBOR’s history into a spectacular book that every member must have. It’s titled REALTORS® Opening Doors for 100 Years. Along with the book, the final touches are being put on a 30-minute video chronicling the history. This special video brings the stories and voices to life. In honor of January 3, WFYI will be hosting a video premier party and you are invited! Plan to join us at either of two showing times; 4:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. for a one-hour event at the WFYI studios in downtown Indianapolis. RSVP here and mark your calendar. There is no better way to kick off MIBOR’s centennial year!

THE CONSTRUCTION NUMBERS ADD UP

If you have been in the Building a Living Legacy neighborhood in the last few weeks, you know the amazing transformation underway. You can see it; you can feel it. There is unmistakable progress and energy. Here’s how the numbers stack up. Of the 32 Building a Living Legacy homes, 18 are complete; six are within a walk-through of being finished, six are progressing and two will begin the construction and renovation process within a month. The best number of all – 12 families are now settled into their new homes. In the last Countdown issue we met Donald Boykins. His story is one of many in which families who were in unsafe conditions or living in shelters now have a fresh start. Click here to view the video progress of some of the properties.

FUNDRAISING COUNTDOWN

We are in the red zone! If you haven’t said it yet, now is the time to say ‘I Contributed’. Every $100 donation to Building a Living Legacy is one step closer to formerly homeless families having a safe, decent place to call home. The real estate community has pledged $500,000 to this project and we are within striking distance of completion. You can be part of it. What better way to celebrate your association’s centennial than with a gift of $100? We are asking every MIBOR member to make a $100 gift to the Building a Living Legacy project in 2011. To help you promote your commitment to your clients and colleagues, we have developed a special 100 icon that you can use once you make your $100 gift. Join in today and help make this project a reality. Together we will create a lasting result on the lives of homeless families striving for self sufficiency. Click here to learn more.

ADOPT-A-HOUSE TODAY

Maybe you have seen the 1-800-PACK-RAT container in the MIBOR parking lot. That is the collection spot for household goods and furniture used to welcome the Building a Living Legacy families home. To date, 12 MIBOR organizations – either individual brokerage offices or Divisions – have answered the call to adopt a house. Now five families have recently moved in that are in need of your help. All five are ready to be adopted by you. If your office or Division wishes to participate, contact Molly Hahn at 317/956-5255 or mollyhahn@realtorfoundation.com.

A suggested list of items can be provided that is suited for each family’s size and needs. It’s that easy! Access National Mortgage is one of the 12 offices that has successfully collected items so far. Misi Johnson, who coordinated the collection at Access, commented about the experience, “ I heard about the project through REAL and told my office about it. Everybody immediately got on board collecting all the essentials and even some furniture pieces. It was such a good experience for us. We took the chance to include our kids to help in the collection and the delivery; that was a great opportunity.”
